What to serve as side with cornish game hen? Wine pairing mentioned...?

I would do a wild rice, risotto, or pilaf and maybe some asparagus. Perhaps a pan gravy with sauteed mushrooms in the gravy. A good Merlot would be nice or if you like white maybe a Pinot Grigiot. Sorry about the spelling.
